Also, there was a lot of pooling water when it rained. Park needs more leveling dirt and gravel to raise low lying areas to keep everything from turning into a mudbath.
This is quite a large campground. When I first arrived the campground was all but empty and they put me right next to someone with all sort of stuff going on (building something, batteries out, etc.) It also was a very windy drive and it was a puddle. The entire place was pretty flooded from some recent rain, which I imagine happens whenever it rains. Anyway, they moved me to another spot, which was great. Everything worked as it should, and we enjoyed our 3 night stay in this location. It looked like there was a lot to do on season. There's a swimming beach, play area and I'm not sure what all else, but I think a family would enjoy it here. I liked it when I was there because it was so quiet, but again, hardly anyone else was there.
No golf cart rental that I know of, but the gravel might make biking difficult and challenging.
The park offered a beach sort of environment, but the dirt/sand wasn't that pleasant for anyone who actually visits beaches. Real sand might go a long way.
We have been happy seasonal campers at American Wilderness since 2013. The staff at American Wilderness Campground are knowledgeable and friendly. AWC is a fun, family centered campground that is close to home. There are many exciting weekend activities for adults and children throughout the camping season, some of our favorites are the outdoor movie nights and the beach parties. If you are a first time camper or a seasoned camper, American Wilderness Campground has everything you need to make the most out of your camping experience. We actually stayed here in April 2016, I'm just catching up on reviews.
I can't say that it was a bad experience, but I can say that the visit was a bit lackluster. Not a lot of friendly or social folks here.
The sites were large and spacious, but the ruts from muddy truck tires could easily turn an ankle right under RV awning where the campers would sit.
We had to extend our stay in the Cleveland area because of my needing a minor surgery for skin cancer. I made reservations here not knowing that the distance to the doctor was too much for my wife to drive me home after the surgery. I had to cancel the reservation not knowing their cancellation policy. When I explained the situation they were kind enough to waive the fee. Now that's the kind of people I like to deal with. I'll be sure to try and stay here the next time we come to this area.

We stayed and had a family reunion over 4 days. Everyone who worked there was very helpful. The store they had was awesome. The people who checked us in and out were very friendly. They remembered who I was and where we were staying. The grounds were really well kept....nice and clean!The site was great. We will be back!
